Gathering Data to Prepare a
Future Orientated Vision for Your School

For use with Board Members, Parents , Staff and Students - to draw up a draft Vision, Values and Core Beliefs about Learning.
  1. What values should the home and school be encouraging students to develop?

  2. What kind of student behaviours should home and school be encouraging? When agreed to a student 'charter ' could be drawn up and used during enrolment and during report time.

  3. What kind of behaviours will the school's staff have to demonstrate? When agreed to these could be included in the Teacher Job Description or Performance Management System.

  4. What kind of parent behaviours should the school try to encourage? A parent 'charter' can be drawn up and used during enrolment.

  5. What future skills will students have to have in place to thrive in changing times?

  6. After considering all the above write out some phrases of how you would like to see an ideal school? From such ideas a shared vision may emerge.

  7. What are some of your current concerns about the school at the present? You could suggest means to remedy the situation.


For teaching staff members only (ideas to develop school wide teaching beliefs)

What are your current beliefs about teaching?
These will contribute to your performance management system.

You may like to think about :

  • What conditions you think need to be in place to encourage students to want to learn?
  • How do you see the teachers role in the learning process?
  • What are your thoughts on how to motive all students to do quality work?
  • What Important teaching strategies should we be using in our classrooms?
  • What classroom management/organisation strategies would assist quality learning and teaching?
  • What are your Ideas on assessment and monitoring to ensure quality learning
  • What are some of your major concerns - barriers to quality teaching?
  • What urgent staff development needs etc ?
  • On a 1 to 10 scale (1=very little alignment) how much is the staff at your school aligned behind shared beliefs that all can articulate?
